Lions Slum volleyball development camp was a dream come true with the help of my NGO Lions club of Mumbai western suburbs.
I first saw a bunch of young growing kids in my neighbourhood with enthusiasm approaching me with various question. Suddenly it came to my mind that putting them as a team can help me building their spirit and energy and give it a direction through my coaching skills in volleyball.
I bought two volleyball and started training the boys every morning at our next door ground. Just within 6 months time the boys started showing their developed skill, most of them got to join their school and college teams. They started getting importance and were called for selection trials. I took them for friendly matches with neighbouring society teams. This experience made them grow confident and tougher and want to go for more stakes and do anything for their coach. They also helped in last year’s lions service activity without hesitation most of them were from N.L school Malad.
All my efforts helped us to practice every morning at the Vasari hill ground and also conduct our first basic slum skill development camp. It makes me confident that now they have officially become our clubs volleyball team which will go forward to play all local tournaments. Some of them will get the district and university colours and make us and our Lions club of Mumbai Western Suburbs proud.
