Lions Club of Mumbai Cosmic Pride Dist.3231 – A3 Region 6 Zone 17 participated in the Childhood Cancer Project and also donated medicines to the terminally ill cancer patients.
Cancer is a feared disease and drains families of all resources – emotional as well monetary. ‘Where there is a need there is a lion’ and members of Lions Club of Cosmic Pride hold this tagline in reverence!
As part of the October Service Week Lions Club of Cosmic Pride organized 2 service projects to help the patients and families suffering from Cancer .
On 3rd October Medicines were donated at Shanti Avedna Ashram – the Terminal Cancer Care Centre . This center provides palliative care to cancer patients .
The second project for the same cause was organized on 5th October . The club participated in the ‘Childhood Cancer Project’ conducted for the patients of Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai . It was heart wrenching to see little angels oblivious to their illness (cancer) waiting in the sweltering October heat with their mothers, eager to receive a
Rs. 900/= worth ration bag kit with pulses (protein ) poverty and desperation written large on their faces . Ironically their happiness hinged on the hope to get some food ignorant to the dreadful disease eating away into their body . It was indeed a levelling thought that we take life , our health , our privileges and people around us for granted . The service week and the various projects conducted which benefits scores of people are humbling experiences and sensitizes us to ground realities of life .
The Paediatric Cancer project was widely attended by the august members of the organization . Leading from the front was the District Governor Dr. Khwaja Mudassir . Other dignitaries of the District included Hemantraj Sethia (1st VDG ) Ajay Havelia ( 2nd VDG ) Manoj Babur ( GST ) Anil Kedia ( Jt DCS ) also attended the project to show their solidarity towards the cause .
Lions Club of Cosmic Pride was the highest donor for this project , where food bags were distributed to 28 families comprising of 4 members each. 112 individuals benefited from this noble project .
It was a well attended project & Cosmic Club were also the single highest donors at the Childhood Cancer Project.
