The Swapnakkoodu Project of District 318C gives destitute widows a home of their own.

From dream to concrete reality

Everyone dreams of having a home, a place they can call their own. But for some, the dream seems unattainable. With no job, no income, no family support… even the thought of a roof over their heads seems a luxury.

District 318C, with the help of clubs, identified ten such beneficiaries – destitute widows with dependent children and bedridden parents to look after – and gave them the courage to dream once again.

The project is called ‘Swapnakkoodu,’ which literally means a dream nest in Malayalam. All the ten homes – thoughtfully designed by Lion Architects – comprise a bedroom, bat and kitchen, with vitrified tiles. Care was taken to ensure there were no compromises on quality – the doors and windows, the electrical fittings and the sanitary fixtures are all of high standards.

Helping hands

The cost of constructing each home is estimated at Rs. 5 lakhs. Clubs of the District came forward to raise 50 % of the amount, with the balance sourced through CSR support from M/s. Manappuram Finance and M/s. Supreme Industries Limited.

Special thanks to Lion CA V.C.James, District Governor for being a part of that event
