Lions Club of Tarapur, District 3231A3 has taken up this initiative of conquering Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis also known as TB is a contagious infection that usually attacks your lungs. It can also spread to other parts of your body, like your brain and spine.
- In 2019, an estimated 10 million people fell ill with tuberculosis(TB) worldwide. 5.6 million men, 3.2 million women, and 1.2 million children. TB is present in all countries and age groups. But TB is curable and preventable.
- In 2019, 1.2 million children fell ill with TB globally. Child and adolescent TB is often overlooked by health providers and can be difficult to diagnose and treat.
A rising number of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis cases motivated us to take up this project. All cases diagnosed with Tuberculosis are given a complete course of Anti – TB medicines totally free of cost. These medicines have to be continued for 6 – 9 months.
Cases are assessed regularly to confirm they are responding to treatment.
Before starting treatment, diagnosed cases are investigated thoroughly to rule out MDR TB, investigations are done at concessional rates.
We are happy to announce that so far more than 300 patients have completed their course of treatment and are declared cured.
Ending the TB epidemic by 2030 is among the health targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) too.
We are grateful to our sponsors and all Pharma companies who have supported us with medicines. Lions Club of Tarapur, District 3231A3 has taken up this initiative of Conquering Tuberculosis since 13th August 2014. I, Lion Dr. Mudassir Khwaja am proud as Project Chairperson of this prestigious project am making a difference.
